As we wrap up another wonderful school year, it is important to remind all of you that there continue to be diagnosed cases of Influenza A within the State of Minnesota. Influenza A is a “family” of viruses that encompasses the seasonal flu virus as well as the H1N1 novel influenza virus (formally referred to as the Swine Flu). Although District 622 has yet to have a confirmed case of H1N1 novel influenza in our student population, the District was notified on June 9, of a positive diagnosis of Influenza A at Cowern Elementary School, which presented with mild symptoms and could be considered a suspect case of H1N1.
Throughout the summer, there will continue to be suspect and confirmed cases of H1N1 throughout the state. As a result, we would like to take the opportunity to remind everyone to use healthy habits over the summer, including washing hands and covering coughs. If you or a family member becomes ill with upper respiratory symptoms contact your health care provider. For more information about Influenza A or the H1N1 novel influenza, please visit http://www.health.state.mn.us/divs/idepc/diseases/flu/h1n1/index.html
Best wishes for a safe and fun summer.
