Ms. Altendorfer K/1 Grade Class
Welcome to Kindergarten/1st Grade. My name is Kathryn Altendorfer and I've been teaching special education for 10+ years, in District 622 for 5 years and at Cowern Elementary for 1 year. The FAN (Functional Academic Needs) is a new program for the district and a new classroom at Cowern Elementary. This is an exciting year for our K/1 students. We've planned many challenging and fun activities that will help our students meet their academic, personal and social goals.
Believe it or not, first grade is just around the corner. Please help us prepare your child for that big day. Please practice:
- Blending sounds to make words.
- Using the initial (first) and last sound to read and find words.
- High frequency words.
- Writing their first and last name.
- Counting to 110 by 1s, 5s, and 10s.
- Counting to 22 by 2s.
- Counting backwards from 12.
- Identifying coins by name and their value.
- Solving simple addition and subtraction problems to 10.
- Tying shoes (please skip velcro).
